Mark Zuckerberg recently stated in an interview, “I think everyone can agree, regardless of what you think is going to happen with globalization and trade, training for modern jobs is really important. That’s one of the big takeaways from these trips. That’s why yesterday, when I was in St. Louis, we announced the Facebook Community Boost program. What we’ve found is if you want to build strong communities, strong local businesses are an important part of communities. I think we can all name a small business that not only is creating jobs in our community, but also is a place where people come together, hang out and connect. That’s really the center of the community.”

In his commencement speech at Harvard he said, “Technology and automation are eliminating many jobs. Membership in communities is declining. Many people feel disconnected and depressed, and are trying to fill a void. As I’ve traveled around, I’ve sat with children in juvenile detention and opioid addicts, who told me their lives could have turned out differently if they just had something to do, an after school program or somewhere to go. I’ve met factory workers who know their old jobs aren’t coming back and are trying to find their place. To keep our society moving forward, we have a generational challenge: to not only create new jobs, but create a renewed sense of purpose.”

Five months ago, Kings department store closed all of its locations, thirteen of which were in Idaho with one located in the heart of Hailey, Idaho on Main Street. I’ve included some images of the building, which could sit unoccupied for several years.

This property could become the community center of the Wood River Valley.

Looking at the building and land from Main street, the Wood River Inn is on the left and the former General Motors dealership is on the right. The dealership has been sold to the Marriott Corporation who will begin building a 75-room Fairfield Inn in 2018. The Kings building consists of two levels with over 30,000 square feet. The main level is 17,100 square feet and the lower lever is 13,500 square feet. I am looking to build a bowling center, sports bar and restaurant with the lower level designed to house a full gaming community center for teens.

I am looking for someone with vision to help bring this to fruition. If you are interested, please contact me today at 208-644-0537
